There’s a new face directing the North End Family Centre.
The board of directors made their decision and hired Jamie Buhler to be the new executive director at NEFC. He started his training at the beginning of November.
Buhler is no stranger to the organization. He has volunteered with the NEFC several times, and current executive director Kyle Mason has known him for a while. Buhler said he is excited about things to come but is taking the time to get acquainted with the centre’s administrative procedures.
“Seeing the work that the centre does in the community and seeing the value that’s there and having a chance to be a part of that was an opportunity,” Buhler told The Times.
“It’s not like I’m walking into something blind. Mason and I had lots of conversation leading up to it. I think we balance each other out.”
Mason will be making a last public appearance as executive director at the centre’s annual Christmas party but said he would continue to “be a friend to the team, to Buhler and to be a resource, a donor, and a future volunteer.”
Buhler owns a property management business and is involved with different local groups. Besides, he has banking experience, Christian ministry experience and the right character and personality that fit well with the centre, Mason said.
“I think Buhler is the right choice and I think that he is going to do amazing things here,” he added.
The new executive director said he would live up to the nine years of hard work that Mason has dedicated and hopes to help the centre continue to be the resource it has been in the North End.
“The people that come here speak highly of Mason which is them speaking highly of the work that he and the centre have provided for them,” he commented. “That’s going to continue and grow.”
Currently, Buhler and Mason are working on organizing the NEFC Endless Possibilities Christmas Gala that will take place on Dec. 8 at the Canad Inns Transcona (826 Regent Ave. W.). For those interested, tickets cost $50 and are available for purchase at www.northendfamilycentre.org
Former CEO of World Vision Canada Dave Toycen will be in attendance and music will be provided by Don Amero and The Point Douglas Gospel Choir.
