On Dec. 30, the Knights of Rizal celebrated the martyrdom of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal and the 2017 Youth Recognition Awards at the Canad Inns located on 930 Jefferson Ave.

The 20 award recipients from different high schools in Winnipeg graduated with a 92 per cent grade point average or higher.
“It was remarkable to see how academically strong the Filipino youth are within our community. The future looks bright for Winnipeg, as these students pursue their post-secondary education in a variety of fields, such as film, medicine, teaching, finance, business and management,” Coun. Mike Pagtakhan (Point Douglas) who is also Knight Grand officer of Rizal, said.
Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital) was inducted into the Order of the Knights of Rizal Winnipeg Chapter and Coun. Devi Sharma (Old Kildonan) into the Ladies of the Knights of Rizal, for their support to the Knights of Rizal in Winnipeg.
The Order of the Knights of Rizal upholds the ideals of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, is headquartered in Manila, and has over 10,000 international members with chapters around the world.
