The Maples Met’s Met Innovation Centre for Entrepreneurship won the 2019 Ken Spencer Award for Teaching and Learning, EdCan announced on April 8. The award, which comes with a $7,000 prize, recognizes and publicizes innovative work that is sustainable and has the potential of being taken up by others, encourages a focus on change in schools, and provides profile for classroom innovation within school districts, schools, and the media. The MICE program provides learners with internships to design their own start-ups — alongside the mentorship of local entrepreneurs — that cater to real clients.
A Ken Spencer Award recognition ceremony to honour the students, educators and community partners involved in the program takes place at the Annual Maples Met School Spring Lecture at the University of Winnipeg on Thurs., May 2, at 7 p.m.
