Calling all local crafters and shoppers — a brand new craft show is popping up later this spring at Garden City Collegiate.
The first ever Garden City Spring Craft & Vendor Show will be held Sat., May 2 — just in time for Mother’s Day shopping. The show will feature a wonderful mix of over 40 vendors selling locally made and handcrafted specialties.
It is being organized by the students and parents of Garden City Collegiate’s 2020 graduating class, in support of the school’s annual Safe Grad event.
The show’s organizing committee is currently seeking all crafters, artisans and vendors interested in taking part. The committee is also seeking food vendors interested in keeping all the hungry shoppers happy.
I am told that the organizers have already been booking a range of local sellers but there are some tables still available. The show will take place inside Garden City Collegiate’s newly renovated gymnasium and commons area, allowing the committee to expand the event space as needed. This will also make for a brighter and more organized shopping environment.
Local craft sales and markets have exploded in popularity in recent years, especially during the busy holiday shopping season.
Knowing where an item is made, who crafted it and what went into it are all increasingly important for today’s shoppers. A spring event, right before Mother’s Day and the outdoors entertaining season, is a fantastic way to spread the “buy local” message year-round.
Organizers have already indicated this could become an annual event in support of each year’s graduating class.
If you are a vendor interested in joining the spring craft sale, please email the show organizers at gardencitygrad2020@gmail.com for more information and to reserve your table (sooner rather than later).
I am so happy to see yet another local event in our beautiful neighbourhood. I am looking forward checking out all the wonderful artisans and picking up a few gifts. See you at the show.
