Congratulations to all of the graduates in the St. Johns constituency.

Whether your family is celebrating a kindergarten, middle school, high school, post-secondary or other school graduation, you should all be so proud.

It takes dedication, commitment, adaptation and resilience to complete your education, particularly during a global pandemic.

I commend all the high school graduates, who all of a sudden had to become their own teachers while trying to complete some of their most challenging courses and make plans for their futures. This is not an easy time to go through such a major life transition.

I know this is not the way you imagined celebrating such a significant milestone but I hope that you still found a way to honour your accomplishments nonetheless.

We saw grad season in full swing here in St. Johns from vehicle parades and backyard ceremonies, to virtual convocations and Zoom parties.

I was able to celebrate with some families as I personally handed out our Angelica Houston scholarships to students across St. Johns.

I’m so happy we all took time to celebrate graduates.

My own son, my youngest, Niniichaanis, graduated from Grade 12 and while it looked very different than we were anticipating, I ensured my sweet boy was honoured and celebrated.

Congratulations to all the grads from St. John’s High School, Champlain School, École Luxton School, Victory School, Ralph Brown School, École Seven Oaks Middle School, Ralph Brown School, Governor Semple School, Inkster School and École Belmont.

Whatever your plans may be in the fall, whether you are returning to school, making your way into the workforce, or are going to spend time adjusting to this new pandemic reality, I wish you all the best in your future.

If your plans are looking different than you thought they would — know that you are not alone — all of us in the community are rooting for you to continue succeeding.

I hope you all enjoy your summer and stay safe. Since travel continues to be restricted, please take the time to enjoy what our community has to offer. If you are able, support local restaurants and shops, or spend some time outdoors while continuing to practise physical distancing.

Even though my office is still closed to in-person visits, we are still working hard for you. Feel free to call 204-582-1550, email Nahanni.Fontaine@yourmanitoba.ca, or connect with me on Twitter @NahanniFontaine
