A local fundraiser will help support children’s homes in southern Asia.
Child Haven International holds its fifth annual Winnipeg fundraising dinner on Sun., Sept. 21 at the Punjab Banquet Hall (94 Mandalay Dr.) at 5 p.m.
Founded in 1985, the Canadian-based registered charity assists children and women in need of food, shelter, clothing, education and health care, as well as emotional and moral support. Child Haven operates eight children’s homes in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Tibet, caring for over 1,100 children.
Zobida Ambtman, a retired Winnipeg social worker, travels to India every other year to volunteer at the Child Haven home in Hyderabad, India.
“I think it is important for these children, most of whom have no parents, to know that someone cares for them beside the staff. The fact that I come back on a regular basis from this faraway country and stay in touch in between, is something many find amazing,” said Ambtman in a press release.
The fundraiser will feature an East Indian dinner, a silent auction, a bazaar and entertainment and master of ceremonies comedian Big Daddy Tazz. Tickets are $40 or $350 for a table of 10 and are available at www.childhaven.ca or by calling Ambtman at 204-489-7630.
