A new community in northwest Winnipeg continues to grow.

The 220-acre area north of McPhillips Street at Murray Avenue, running along where the future Chief Peguis Trail extension is expected to run, is the site of Aurora at North Point. In the next 10 years, the new development is expected to have approximately 1,200 new homes, parks, ponds, and commercial structures. Land developers Daytona Homes announced the completion of Phase One of the project on Sept. 7.
The mixed use space will include townhomes as well as single- and multi-family, semi-detached housing. Space for businesses, to provide the new homes with nearby amenities, are part of the development. Aurora at North Point will be Daytona Homes’ first in the city.
“We identified this project from afar, and we liked Winnipeg for many reasons — the economy is stable, the market is stable, the city is growing in a very nice predictable pace — and it’s very easy for us to get creative in a stable community,” Paul Moroz, Daytona Homes senior development manager, said.
Phase One of this development is sold out, and work on Phase Two has begun. Old Kildonan councillor Devi Sharma, a longtime north Winnipeg resident, said she’s
excited about the plans of this new community.
“This new community of Aurora at North Point is no doubt going to be a beautiful place to live and raise a family,” she said.
Sharma added the City, provincial and federal governments have been instrumental in bringing improved recreational amenities to the area, such as Seven Oaks Arena and the Winnipeg Soccer Federation Soccer North indoor soccer complex. Seven Oaks Pool is undergoing a major renovation that will house the first indoor splash pad of the city. Sharma said residents of the new development will reap the benefits of these facilities.

“It is rich with recreational and other amenities nearby. Aurora is breaking new ground with this community and is the catalyst for other development that will follow in the
inner Perimeter beltway that will help to make us a city of one million people strong.”
Aurora is being developed by award-winning community builders Broadview Homes, Daytona Homes, Kensington Homes and Sunrex Homes. For more information on this new development, go to auroralife.ca/
