Pagtakhan has been working with the City naturalist of the Parks and Open Space department to preserve the reserve, located at the corner of Shaughnessy Street and Aberdeen Avenue.
He arranged for the City to acquire 12 different species for a total of 48 plants to be installed in the reserve. The species included Snowberry, red osier dogwood, Saskatoon, narrow leaf Meadowsweet, ostrich fern, highbush cranberry, narrow leaf sunflower, rough false sunflower, wild bergamot, giant hyssop and swamp milkweed.
"Together with the local community, we learned how to properly transplant from the pot to the ground, as well as learning how to water and care for the reserve after planting," Pagtakhan said. "It was fantastic to see the community come together to help expand this local natural forest located in the northwest Winnipeg."
