Update on soccer complex

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 02/05/2016 (3480 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Let me bring you up-to-date on the new soccer complex under construction on Leila Avenue adjacent to the Garden City Shopping Centre.
This building will have 160,000 square-feet of usable space housing the second FIFA regulation size indoor soccer pitch in the province. As a winter city, we need to offer indoor recreational facilities like this to allow everyone the opportunity to remain active when outdoor activities are not an option.
Although the primary use of the facility will be soccer, the complex can be used by a variety of sports such as ultimate disc, football, baseball and rugby in addition to school physical education programming.
The field’s size can be customized to benefit the needs of the users by motorized curtains that divide the field into different configurations.
Access to the complex will come from Leila Avenue and parking will be available on the east side of the building. The amenities in the complex will include 16 change rooms, a concession area, pro shop and meeting space. Spectators can view field activities from the second-floor mezzanine that surrounds the field with a combination of seating and standing areas. Accessible seating will be available at each field as well. The building will meet Green Globes requirements which means it will be compliant with set environmental standards such as energy consumption.
When completed, the soccer complex will have windows and landscaping with grass and trees. The windows will allow natural light into the facility but will not affect the playing of the sports. Trees, grass and shrubs will be planted around the complex and a berm will wrap around the building, giving it a green image.
This is a very exciting project for North Winnipeg and a facility that will complement the recently opened Seven Oaks Arena at the Garden City Community Centre. The scheduled opening for the complex is this summer.
As always, if you would like to speak to me further about this, or any other city matter, feel free to stop by my community office at 646 Leila Ave., call me at 204-986-5264 or email devi@winnipeg.ca
