Are you a registered organ donor?

Are you a registered organ donor?

I’m a huge supporter of organ donation. I believe that we all have the opportunity/ potential to save lives. And we should by being an organ donor.

The subject can be extremely uncomfortable — thinking about after we are gone from this earth. But the fact is there are only two choices when we pass. Either way, perfectly good organs are being wasted and lives are being lost. So let’s choose the third choice that not everyone considers — organ donation.

A lot of people are organ donors already. But most are on those old cards that are no longer being used. So it is important to register online at signupforlife.ca

This way there is no confusion about your intentions.

Some people want to register but just haven’t got around to doing it. What are waiting for? It’s important and it only takes a few minutes online.

The most important reason to be a donor is to save lives. Leave your heart to a man who is dying in a hospital bed; lungs to a person who cannot breathe on their own; a kidney to a mom who wants to see her children grow up.

Waiting lists are long. Thousands of people die every year waiting for an organ.

If you were in this situation wouldn’t you want someone to donate and save your life?

I’m hoping to educate. To let everyone know that there is real people with lives and family waiting to continue living. People that are loved and family suffering, watching their pain.

And I know this first-hand. I spent most of my life living with kidney disease but I received a transplant. I am thankful every single day for the stranger that saved my life.

National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week finished up in April. More than 2,400 people registered to become organ donors during that time. Manitoba now has close to 40,000 people registered.

Being an organ donor makes sense. It just seems so wrong not to share.

If you are still undecided please do some research. Discuss it with your loved ones. And if you are ready to become an organ donor then please go to signupforlife.ca and register.

You may never get to be a donor (as not all people can be at the time of passing). But isn’t  it great to know that you could be someone’s miracle?
