Good morning!

Your forecast: It’s the weather forecast dreams are made of. Really. This morning, Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast is all but telling you to get off your keister and enjoy the great outdoors. Expect plenty of sunshine today, light wind from the southeast at 20 km/h and a daytime high of 28 C. And then from Thursday through to next Tuesday, we’re in store for a whole lot of blue sky and sweltering temperatures, ranging from 28 C to 31 C.

Nothing wrong with the stadium: The architect behind Investors Group Field responded to a lawsuit from Triple B Stadium, a shell company representing the city, province, University of Manitoba and Winnipeg Football Club, over problems with the two-year-old football venue. Architect Ray Wan denied responsibility for dozens of alleged design and construction deficiencies. Wan pointed to later changes not in the original design, saying “the plaintiff asked for a two-/three-season facility, not a four-season facility, to be constructed.”

Pischke just misses podium: Winnipeg’s Taylor Pischke and partner Melissa Humana-Parades of Toronto had to settle for fourth place in women’s beach volleyball at the Pan Am Games. The Canadian duo were beaten 21-9, 21-14 by team from Brazil in Tuesday’s bronze-medal game in Toronto. “Obviously, today wasn’t a very good day for us… definitely not our best, not even close to our best,” Pischke said, afterwards. The Canadians will take a month off before resuming training and competition as they gear up to quality for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Accused driver had past anger issues: The man accused of smashing a large delivery truck into five Winnipeg police cruiser cars Monday had demonstrated anger issues in the past that got him into legal hot water. Court records show Wayne Rennie, 24, had shown volatile behaviour in the past and has six convictions on his record dating back to 2010. A judge even commented the man needed to “find a way to deal with your impulsive actions and those feelings of frustration and anger.” Rennie faces a dozen criminal charges after smashing the vehicles and then leading police on a nearly 100-kilometre chase west down the Trans-Canada Highway before his capture.

Decemberist feel in mid-July: The Decemberists, an indie-pop group from Portland, Ore., perform at the Burton Cummings Theatre. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. The group will be supporting its latest album, What a Terrible World, What a Wonderful World, which was released in January.

Justin time at Fringe Festival: Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is in Winnipeg today and will attend the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. He’s slated to be at Old Market Square, at the corner of King Street and Bannatyne Avenue, at 3:45 p.m., as he campaigns for this fall’s federal election.

Headdress not a fashion statement: A white festivalgoer was spotted wearing a faux indigenous headdress at the Winnipeg Folk Festival, raising concerns of cultural appropriation, and now other music festivals in Canada are calling for a ban on them as well. Feathered headdresses have as much significance among specific First Nations as military medals or university degrees, writes columnist Jen Zoratti, and aren’t there for the taking.

Medical weed dealer open for biz: Glenn Price, owner of Your Medical Cannabis Headquarters, had the Open for Business sign out Tuesday and vows to stay open, even though city police have ordered him to stop. After a brief hiatus, Price began selling medical marijuana again out of his Main Street location. Price says he only sells his product to adults who have prescriptions who go through an assessment process with the store, but he is not licensed by Health Canada to sell medical cannabis, meaning his operation is illegal.

Probation for ex-senator’s wife: The 26-year-old wife of former Manitoba senator Rod Zimmer pleaded guilty Tuesday in Ottawa to possession of a weapon for an incident earlier this year. Maygan Sensenberger was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation for 15 months for the February confrontation with police at her home. She also pleaded guilty to mischief for kicking out the back window of a police cruiser after an arrest in August 2014 over a disturbance at a medical clinic.

On July 22, 1968: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that a tornado touched down in La Riviere, causing $1-million worth of damage, with photos from off-duty photographer Dave Bonner. Fire destroyed the roof and towers of St. Boniface Cathedral. David Lewis succeeded T.C. Douglas as leader of the federal NDP. Prospective and ongoing building developments, such as Lombard Place office tower at Portage and Main and a hotel/cinema complex at Portage and Smith Street, prompted speculation as to whether Winnipeg would soon have a “big-city skyline.”
