Environment Canada is calling for a 60 per cent chance of flurries late in the morning and in the afternoon. Today’s high temperature is -3 C. We could see some flurries tonight as well, and the overnight low is -16 C. Expect a sunny Thursday with a high of -6 C, while the outlook for Friday is clear and -1 C.

Horrible details: Winnipeg teen Cooper Nemeth is believed to have been killed within a few hours of vanishing from a Winnipeg house party on Valentine’s Day — the victim of a drug-related robbery, severe beating and shooting. Jones trying to keep up: Team Canada, also known as the Jennifer Jones foursome from Winnipeg, won a pair of games at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Tuesday to improve to 4-2. The defending national curling champions trail Alberta’s Chelsea Carey (6-1), a former Winnipegger, and Northern Ontario (5-1). Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson is 3-3. READ MORE

True North Square: A press conference at 10 a.m. today is expected to provide further details of the three-building complex that True North Developments plans for a pair of vacant lots at 225 Carlton St. The plans include a 19-storey office and retail tower, a 28-storey hotel and residential tower and a nine-storey office building. Today’s announcement is expected to identify the project’s partners and lead tenants. Free Press business writer Murray McNeil will report.
Solemn gathering: Premiers, federal ministers and indigenous leaders meet in Winnipeg today for a three-day roundtable on missing and murdered indigenous women. The RCMP has estimated at least 1,200 indigenous women have gone missing or been murdered since 1980. Although they make up 4.3 per cent of the Canadian population, they account for 16 per cent of female homicides and 11.3 per cent of missing women. READ MORE
Bark for your park: The city is exploring options for the creation of a downtown off-leash dog park. An open house today will get an update on the project, see results from the online survey conducted in January and provide feedback on possible locations. On Feb. 24, 1947: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the East Kildonan Ski club faced charges of racial discrimination from members of the Jewish community who said their children had been refused membership. “The club is on municipal property” said Reeve W.P. Larsen, “and neither my council nor myself will tolerate such practices.” Larsen added, “We thought we had every reassurance from them that racial discrimination would not be made a policy at the club. They are on municipal property and I intend to do everything in my power to wipe out this feeling or their lease will be cancelled in quick order.”
