In a Free Press exclusive today, climate experts say summers in Winnipeg in the year 2080 will be as hot and dry as they are today in the Texas Panhandle if worldwide greenhouse gas emissions aren’t reduced. And our winters would be less drastic, which sounds good but really isn’t at all. On Saturday, expect a sunny, breezy day and a high of 10 C, while Sunday’s daytime high should hit 17 C. Environment Canada is calling for a stretch of sunny days next week, with temperatures ranging from 13 C on Monday to 24 C by Thursday.

PM to tour Fort McMurray: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will get a first-hand look at the wildfire devastation in Fort McMurray, Alta., today. He is expected to tour areas which sustained severe damage and left the city’s residents homeless for an indefinite period. As a target of online abuse, mainly for being an outspoken woman in a male-dominated field, Wu says it’s not just having to file 3,000 harassment, rape, death threat and doxing reports in the last year that wears her down, it’s the fact that the toxic culture is driving women out of the field in droves. In Winnipeg, Trans-Canada air lines had laid off 300 workers in recent months and company president H.J. Symington would not rule out further job losses. Winnipeg police were working with a shoe expert to identify a badly decomposed woman’s leg that had been found hanging in a tree along the Red River.
