Good morning!

Your forecast: It’s just another crappy Monday; we wish it was Sunday. That’s not exactly how The Bangles’ song goes, but it’s fitting for the start of the second week of July in southern Manitoba. Light rain started falling in Winnipeg today at about 5:30 a.m. and should continue for much of the morning. There’s a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening, with winds southeast at 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h. The high temperature is 26 C. On Tuesday, expect a cloudy morning and rain in the afternoon, with a daytime high of 23 C. The wet stuff continues Wednesday and Thursday, but Environment Canada is forecasting a sunny, warm weekend. That’s our fun days, our we-don’t-have-to-run days.

Steinbach Pride: Granted, it was tough to miss media coverage of the run-up to Steinbach’s first Pride Parade. But the event Saturday was a huge success and well worth revisiting. More than 3,000 people attended the parade, and the start had to be pushed back to accommodate bumper-to-bumper traffic on the highway into Automobile City. Residents used Sunday church services to reflect on the parade, which even got the best wishes of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. READ MORE

Fire victims remembered: Two people who died in a rooming house blaze late last week in North Point Douglas were honoured Sunday night at neighbourhood church service. Brenda Campbell, 51, and John Bendon, 61, died in the fire. Winnipeg police believe the fire was deliberately set, and the homicide unit is investigating. READ MORE

Portugal 1, France, 0: After a less-than-glorious start to the tournament, and despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo to an injury early-on, Portugal beat France to win 2016’s European Championship. It was the country’s first Euro title, and it sent Winnipeggers of Portuguese descent flooding onto Sargent Avenue to celebrate. READ MORE

Stomp out hunger: Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and community volunteers will drop off 60,000 cards to homes throughout Winnipeg today through Friday, encouraging people to leave non-perishable food items in a bag, with the card attached, on their front steps Saturday, July 16. The items for Winnipeg Harvest will picked up the same day, between 9-11 a.m. For residents who don’t receive a tent card, there will be four dropoff locations on Tuesday, July 19 between 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. These include: 700 London St., 505 Academy Rd., 45 Dalhousie Dr., and 807 Setter St.

JOE BRYKSA / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS FILESThelma Krull was last seen July 11, 2015, and multiple searches have only turned up her glasses in the Valley Gardens area.

A sorrowful mystery: It’s been exactly a year since Thelma Krull, 58, went missing after going for a walk from her home in Harbourview South. And despite a huge community search effort that has continued, at times, since then, it seems family and authorities are no closer to finding out what happened to the wife, mom and grandmother. Police are holding a press conference today to provide an update on the case, and a vigil has been planned for tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Kimberly Hill, near the Terry Sawchuk Arena in Valley Gardens.
