Closed for construction: Pembina Highway will be closed to traffic in both directions from 8 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. Tuesday as workers install bridge girders as part of the southwest rapid transitway project. Winnipeg Transit buses and emergency vehicles can still use the overpass, and pedestrians can use the east sidewalk.

On Dec. 29, 1969: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that three people had died in a severe blizzard that struck Quebec, dumping 30 inches of snow on the province. Parts of Vermont were hit with 50 inches of snow. Tom Lamb, originally from The Pas and called the “Babe Ruth of bush pilots,” died at the age of 71 in Hawaii.
