Crash in Kathmandu: Dozens of people are dead after a plane crashed while landing at the Kathmandu airport in Nepal early today. A police official said at least 38 of the 71 people on board are dead, but the number might be more than 50. READ MORE

On March 12, 1955: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that two men were killed in a helicopter crash near Gillam. The U.S. Air Force introduced a bomber that carried jet fighters that could be deployed and recovered in flight. A former Winnipegger was charged with trafficking drugs in Vancouver, which was part of an intensifying drug war in British Columbia. In Manitoba, Independent MLA Steve Juba asked the legislature to allow municipalities to decide whether they would permit sporting events on Sundays.
