Homicide arrest announced: Manitoba RCMP are holding an afternoon news conference at their Portage Avenue headquarters to announce an arrest in a homicide case. Police didn’t state which investigation they’re referring to.

Rally at hydro HQ: A rally over environmental concerns and Manitoba Hydro’s relationship with Indigenous communities is happening at 5:30 p.m. outside the utility’s downtown headquarters. The board of the Crown corporation resigned yesterday, saying the premier wouldn’t discuss “critical issues” with them, such Hydro’s “efforts to further develop its relationship with Indigenous peoples.” READ MORE

Traffic notes: Higgins Avenue is closed in both directions at Annabella Street in Point Douglas after a vehicle slammed into a building. Meanwhile, Empress Street will be closed to traffic in both directions between Wellington and Sargent avenues at 8 a.m. for building construction work. The section of road will reopen at 5 p.m. Friday.

On March 22, 1956: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that provincial flood forecasters had knocked a foot and a half off the predicted peak of the Red River in Greater Winnipeg and that the river would cause no damage as the crest flowed north from Emerson, but that the Seine River posed the risk of causing damage in St. Vital and St. Boniface.
