On Sept. 24, 1902: The Manitoba Free Press reported that U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt was compelled to suddenly abandon his western tour at Indianapolis after an abcess on his leg broke out, the result of a recent accident at Pitsfield; the president was rushed into surgery, and afterward conveyed by train back to Washington, D.C. In Manitoba, a petition in court to unseat the MP for Lisgar, Duncan Stewart, made no headway. READ MORE
