On Jan. 7, 1910: The Manitoba Free Press reported that the Gulf of Mexico was the scene of cold weather; there was eight inches of snow at Memphis, Tenn., with Arkansas and Mississipi covered in snow as well; and train tracks in eastern Montana were blocked by huge drifts. Canada’s wheat crop in 1909 was estimated at 166,- to 744,000 bushels, an increase over the previous year. U.S. president Taft made it clear in a new statement from his government that Japan must not interfere with U.S. machinations.
