On Sept. 5, 1986: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that a Portage la Prairie woman was released from jail after the Crown agreed her three-month sentence, imposed for the woman’s refusal to testify against her husband, was too harsh. Manitoba government MLAs who launched an attack on the media in the media were abusing their positions, said Conservative party leader Gary Filmon.The chief executive of MTS told a legislative committee that in 1983, he had flown to London to cheer up an exhausted MTS employee who had spent more than a year working for the company in Saudi Arabia.
