On Sept. 10, 1937: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that fate intervened to determine who would be the first patient to use the first of only two iron lung facilities in the city, at King George hospital, when a four-year-old patient with a critical case of paralysis died, and a 23-year-old patient who had been sharing the respirator with him would now receive full-time treatment. A second iron lung machine in use sadly became available when the 16-year-old patient using it also died. READ MORE
