There is a fair bit of snow on the roads, so morning commuters might want to give themselves extra time for their trip.

Northern Affairs Minister Dan Vandal and Manitoba Metis Federation president David Chartrand will announce a partnership to “strengthen economic development opportunities” later this morning.

Ottawa is proceeding with efforts to help Hong Kong residents remain in Canada instead of returning to face China’s clampdown on democracy.

Councillor’s conscience ‘clear’: City Coun. Kevin Klein, who is seen several times in a recent television documentary on Peter Nygard, said he doesn’t expect to face political fallout because of his link to the former fashion mogul. Klein, who hasn’t ruled out running for mayor, formerly worked for Nygard and has said he went to the Bahamas twice during his employment. On Feb. 4, 1980: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that opinion polls gave all federal parties reason to hope for success in the upcoming federal election on Feb. 18; in Winnipeg, Progressive Conservative finance minister John Crosbie appeared at a campaign event for Winnipeg-Fort Garry candidate Inez Trueman. In Washington, D.C., Republican leaders and the chairman of the House ethics committee called for investigations of a report that eight members of Congress faced bribery charges after being snared in an FBI sting operation.
