Feds to deliver data: Federal government officials will hold a media briefing on COVID-19 data and modelling amid the third wave of the pandemic and the arrival of the B.1.167 variant first detected in India. The briefing begins at 9:15 a.m. CT. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will speak about the pandemic at 10:45 a.m. CT. Afterward, he and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, will receive their first doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

On April 23, 1956: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that a 35-year-old father shot and killed his three children before dying by suicide at his Lisgar Street apartment. Greater Winnipeg was preparing to get into the first phase of its flood-fighting master plan, as the “river at Winnipeg” was expected to peak on May 7. The Free Press marked St. George’s day by flying the Cross of St. George from the courtesy flagstaff all day.
