More medals for Canada: Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard won Canada’s second judo medal of the Olympics. She won bronze in her weight division one day after Jessica Klimkait won Canada’s first-ever Olympic medal in women’s judo. Beauchemin-Pinard’s medal is her country’s seventh of the games. The Western Canada Irrigation Association looked at the feasibility of diverting water from streams to irrigate farmers’ fields. Attendance records at the Brandon fair were broken thanks to a strong showing by Winnipeggers on the event’s Winnipeg Day. In Saint John, a dog responsible for saving 92 lives by swimming a tow line out to a steamship wreck was awarded a special collar and cross.
