On May 26, 1942: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the Axis powers were putting pressure on the Vichy government for control over French territory and naval vessels. Ottawa introduced rationing of tea and coffee, and reduced the existing sugar ration by one-third; the honour system in place since the practice was begun would be maintained for the new restrictions. The minister of national defence gave an inspection of the Winnipeg Light Infantry at the Fort Osborne barracks. READ MORE
