The province of Manitoba’s criminal property forfeiture director has filed a lawsuit to seize cash, properties, a luxury vehicle and jewelry from lottery winner Khalaf Shammo, 26, and his siblings and parents. Erik Pindera has the story.

And a Winnipeg woman who is seeking compensation from Sunwing Airlines Inc. over a long flight delay in Cuba has accused the travel company of violating passengers’ rights under federal regulations. Chris Kitching reports.

A man charged in a vicious, downtown attack Friday was in court one day earlier, pleading guilty to a previous assault, the Free Press has learned. Multiple people are suspected of confronting the victim, who they did not know, in what a police source described as a “horrific” and “prolonged” assault using multiple weapons before they robbed him of his possessions. On Feb. 7, 1935: The Winnipeg Free Press reported a judge dismissed the application by the Retail Merchants Association for an injunction to restrain the City of Winnipeg from leasing appliance sales and show rooms in the Boyd building for the municipally-owned Hydro Electric system. In the second day of Manitoba’s 47th annual bonspiel there were 15 extra end games, with two of those going to a 14th end. In London, Ont., a Cincinnati man was convicted on three charges in connection with the abduction of a wealthy London brewer John S. Labatt, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
