Happy Monday!
When I was an overly enthusiastic basset hound owner nearly two decades ago, I attended a few handling classes with my two-year-old purebred male. The conformation classes were intended to teach me how to stack, or pose, Dooley in front of judges and prepare both of us for a walk in the ring.
Back then, I wasn’t too keen on Dooley competing for a “Best of Breed” title, but his breeder, Sue Edginton, convinced me that my handsome red and white boy might have a good chance to win.

The morning of the event at St. Norbert Community Centre, Dooley jumped off the bed and strained his ankle. Sadly, his chance at fame was over, but the prospect of stardom for one Winnipeg pooch has only just begun.
Wind’s Something About Mary (Mary) is a four-and-a-half year old Chinese crested powder puff that earned herself a “National Specialty Winner” invite to the 147th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show after capturing “Best in Show” at last year’s American Chinese Crested Club (ACCC) Nationals in St. Louis.

This year’s prestigious canine event, which began Saturday in New York City, features 3,000 dogs competing for the coveted “Best in Show” trophy.
Mary and her owners, Donna McLeod of Oakbank, Peggy May of St. Francis Xavier and Steve Kelly of Las Cruces, N.M., arrived there Sunday night.

And let’s hope their lovely Chinese crested powder puff will knock it out of the dog park at tonight’s “Toy Group” competition.
Good luck, Mary!
Have a great week!
