The Wrap: AI in courts, Dancing Gabe’s future, and high-flying drones at The Forks
|
|
Good evening. Here’s a look at what our newsroom has been working on today:
Manitoba’s court system is grappling with the use of artificial intelligence. Court of King’s Bench Chief Justice Glenn Joyal has issued a practice direction requiring disclosure when AI is used in court submissions. Reporter Danielle Da Silva talks to Joyal and others in the justice system about the use of these tools.
Gabriel Langlois is a celebrity in Winnipeg, well-known for his dance moves at professional sports games. His sister, Claudette, is worried about what will happen to “Dancing Gabe” if family members are no longer able to care for him. A local radio show has launched a campaign to raise funds for his long-term support — and the fundraiser is shining a light on the struggles faced by many Manitobans with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers.
And: What are your plans for Canada Day? Eva Wasney looks at ways Winnipeg will mark July 1, including a synchronized dance by 100 drones high in the night sky over The Forks.
