Winnipeg police arrested former Canadian fashion executive Peter Nygard, 81, at the Toronto South Detention Centre — where he remains in custody on multiple counts of sexual assault and forcible confinement — in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a then-20-year-old woman in November 1993 at Nygard’s former corporate headquarters in Winnipeg.
Education reporter Maggie Macintosh looks into the University of Winnipeg Faculty Association’s concerns about the unusually high number of departures of senior and long-standing staff members — the majority of them women — since a new president was appointed to oversee the downtown campus in the spring of 2022.
City reporter Tyler Searle talks to Shawn Brandson and Connie McKane-Brandson, who run an event-planning business in Fort Gibraltar, which remains closed after the collapse of a raised walkway in May. “When the accident happened, we figured they would cordon off that area and secure it, so we would be able to continue to operate,” says Brandson. “Then we found out they were blocking off the entire facility, including our kitchen where we prep all our food.”
