'A huge breach of integrity'

Details surrounding Jonathan Black-Branch’s unexplained exit from the helm of the U of M’s Robson Hall in 2020 were finally revealed this week as his long-awaited professional disciplinary hearing got underway.

The former law dean is accused of taking about half a million dollars from an endowment fund and using it for unrelated expenses.

'Something needed to be done'

Hundreds of people shouted at each other and waved placards outside the Manitoba legislature Wednesday, as two competing protests squared off over LGBTTQ+ issues in public education.

The initial Winnipeg rally was organized as part of “1MillionMarch4Children” protests across the country. The group says it is “against gender ideology” and “sexually explicit content” in schools.

In a counter-protest, many pro-LGBTTQ+ and transgender rights supporters also gathered to voice their concerns about the aims of “parental rights” rally organizers.

'It really embodies the stewardship that the museum is trying to do'

It is “cleaning week,” at the Manitoba Museum, an annual September event that sees the museum close to the public for five days while staff from every department assist with special cleaning projects.
