The Wrap: Safety at HSC, Christmas Cheer Board opens early and translating

The Manitoba Nurses Union has filed a grievance against Shared Health citing safety concerns in parkades and surface parking lots surrounding HSC, with an arbitration hearing slated for early December.

A second grievance — this one concerning how the health authority reports on incidents of violence provincewide — has also been filed, with the arbitration hearing date yet to be announced.

The union said Thursday as many as 50 people have responded to an open letter asking them to describe incidents at Winnipeg’s largest hospital, with nurses reporting everything from vehicle thefts to physical assaults, including being punched and spit on.

The Christmas Cheer Board has decided to open their phone lines tomorrow — days earlier than they ever have before — to help people hit hard by high grocery prices and other inflationary increases get a hamper filled with food for Christmas.

For the last two seasons, Jack Maier has been contracted by Théâtre Cercle Molière to translate French scripts into English, a painstaking process of text consolidation that requires grammatical prowess and theatrical comprehension in both languages.

Once the English text is complete, audience members attending performances can read along on individual tablets provided by TCM, with Maier operating the subtitling system.
