The Food Fare grocery store at Portage and Burnell has been the scene of a number of incidents or allegations involving employees and people they accused of shoplifting.

In recent years, Food Fare co-owner Munther Zeid has discussed a rise in shoplifting at his stores. In the past few weeks, allegations have surfaced of staff assaulting people who were accused of stealing food.

Yesterday, three employees at the store were hospitalized after they were attacked by a suspect wielding brass knuckles.

Winnipeg’s Animal Services made the largest animal seizure in the city’s history Wednesday, taking 68 dogs from a home in the Richmond West neighbourhood in south Winnipeg.

Officers wearing hazmat suits seized dozens of small-breed dogs from the home, both puppies and adults. Officers reported “layers” of feces and urine throughout the home.

Hours before the partial remains of Rebecca Contois were found in a Winnipeg garbage bin, a man who lived in the same apartment building as her killer saw the man disposing of trash in the middle of the night.

Jeremy Skibicki’s trial heard Wednesday from several of the admitted serial killer’s neighbours about what they noticed about his actions around the time he killed four women.

With about 60 per cent of cereal and corn crops in the ground in Manitoba, the planting season is off to an uneventful start.
