'Just seems so obviously wrong'
After years of headlines about frigid rides to and from Winnipeg, heat on commercial buses will be mandatory this winter.
New bus safety laws, announced by the provincial government today, will require functional passenger heating systems effective Nov. 1. Previously, there was no provincial requirement for heaters in passenger areas of buses, aside from school buses. Gabrielle Piché reports.

'I’m sure it affects them in ways they don’t understand yet'
Children and their parents were left shaken after the latest in a string of violent incidents involving machetes.
In one case, a pair of high school students escaped serious injuries by using their backpacks to defend themselves when fellow student attacked them with a machete last Wednesday. In another case Saturday, a group of kids fled from a machete-wielding man near an inner-city drop-in centre, police said.
Reporters Chris Kitching and Tyler Searle have the story.

'These dragons respected me as a business woman'
A Winnipeg entrepreneur is undeterred after failing to find an investor during her foray into Dragons’ Den.
Cheryl Zealand pitched her business, Cranked Energy bars, on the latest episode of the long-running CBC television reality show, which aired Oct. 17. Zealand sought $250,000 for a 15 per cent share of the company, which would help her expand the business nationally. Zealand told business reporter Aaron Epp she’s still grateful for the experience.

'They're artists too'
BNB, the video-photography studio behind promo images and music videos for so many of Manitoba’s musicians, including Leith Ross, Begonia, Boy Golden and William Prince, brings a bold visual esthetic to its work.
BNB’s lead videographer-photographer duo Jen Doerksen and Julio (Buio) Assis spoke to arts writer Conrad Sweatman about their vision and about supporting local artists.
