Minaki-based author Tim Martin will be in Winnipeg to talk about his book detailing Canada’s civilian mission in Afghanistan and the discussions he had with 25 soldiers, fellow civilians and Afghans.

The Canadian International Council will host Martin, who was the last Representative of Canada in Kandahar (RoCK), for his presentation on Unwinnable Peace: Canada’s Mission in Afghanistan at the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club (275 Stradbrook Ave.) at 5:30 p.m.

On Nov. 12, 1917: The Manitoba Free Press reported in Ottawa, as prime minister Sir Robert Borden prepared to embark on his election campaign, he vowed to continue the country’s war effort, strive for national unity, and devise new measures of taxation that would regard social justice.
