The mayorâs cabinet wants to hire a full-time transit planner to chart out adjustments to the controversial spine-and-feeder network thatâs been the source of persistent complaints since it was rolled out in June.
The executive policy committee voted Tuesday to add the permanent planner to the proposed 2026 budget. The full council must vote on it.
âWe knew there would be adjustments needed this (coming) year. And, so, to expedite the work that is needed⊠to make the system better requires a transit plannerâŠ. We want to give our staff the resources they need, so that citizens see the ongoing improvements,â said Mayor Scott Gillingham.

On Dec. 17, 1951: The Winnipeg Free Press reported in Ottawa, a report tabled in the House of Commons showed a capital industrial investment program of $18.7 million was undertaken in Winnipeg, surpassing any other postwar year. The total value of Winnipeg Electric Company and city hydro assets was set at approximately $86 million by city-appointed auditors.
