Many of the residents and business owners who packed a town hall across the street from the proposed supervised drug consumption site in the North Logan neighbourhood on Tuesday night, voiced fierce opposition to it, reports Scott Billeck.

Leaders of an isolated First Nation on Lake Winnipeg that relies on a boat owned by the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation are worried residents will be stranded as the federal Crown corporation looks to divest its operations, reports Erik Pindera.

The mayor’s cabinet wants to hire a full-time transit planner to chart out adjustments to the controversial spine-and-feeder network that’s been the source of persistent complaints since it was rolled out in June.

The executive policy committee voted Tuesday to add the permanent planner to the proposed 2026 budget. The full council must vote on it.

“We knew there would be adjustments needed this (coming) year. And, so, to expedite the work that is needed
 to make the system better requires a transit planner
. We want to give our staff the resources they need, so that citizens see the ongoing improvements,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham.

The total value of Winnipeg Electric Company and city hydro assets was set at approximately $86 million by city-appointed auditors.
