Cheryl Castor is leading an effort to get services back at First Steps Wellness Centre, a Winnipeg rehabilitation facility, where her son, Will, worked with therapists to regain independence after a car crash permanently changed his life.
On June 5, financial constraints forced First Steps to close, leaving families without the specialized therapy they had come to rely on.

On the bright side
As Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site’s first-ever volunteer live painting artist, JD Hawk relished sharing his artistic process with curious visitors.
Hawk created rough drafts for him to reference later in the year when creating his final paintings.
His observations, drafts and photos led to the creation of a body of 14 works, eight of which are now housed at the Lower Fort Garry Visitor Centre.

On July 13, 1932: The Winnipeg Free Press reported two police officers and one alleged Communist agitator were in hospital, and three other alleged agitators were held in police custody, after a clash between police and approximately 100 rioters outside the East Welwood and Company Limited box factory in Elmwood, where a labour strike was in progress.
