More than two dozen real-life heroes were recognized for their courageousness and quick-thinking by Lifesaving Society Manitoba Tuesday at the annual Rescue & Honour Awards ceremony.
Recipients either saved a life in a water rescue or have contributed to life-saving efforts in the province.

On July 29, 1954: The Winnipeg Free Press reported RCMP searched Tuxedo and Charleswood for a clue to the identity of a wild marksman who had wounded a suburban golfer and narrowly missed his two companions. Manitoba’s first sale by public tender of leases on Crown-owned oil and natural gas rights netted the province more than $88,000.
