On this date

On April 4, 1925: The Manitoba Free Press reported that despite repeated opposition from Conservative MLAs, the Tory government’s new Liquor Control Act passed in the legislature. In Saskatchewan, new legislation would take effect on April 15, repealing the previous liquor law, the Saskatchewan Temperance Act. In Moscow, a labour council found government control of industry was a failure and the present “trade desert” was harmful to the long-term success of the socialist state.
