Free Press Head Start for April 13

Good morning.

A spring storm is expected to dump plenty of snow on southern Manitoba starting today, but not very much has fallen in Winnipeg so far. A winter storm warning is in effect. Environment Canada says the majority of the snow is expected to fall today in the Red River Valley, including Winnipeg.

School today? Cancelled, for nearly everyone. University? Cancelled. Garbage pickup? Cancelled. Jets game? Postponed. Willingness to shovel? Cancelled last month (for me, at least). Basically, everything is cancelled. Here is a complete list of closed and cancelled city servicesClick here to check for highway closures.

Need milk or bread? Good luck. The shelves were bare yesterday.

A murder trial that had previously been suspended because of COVID-19 cases among jurors resumed for one day before being cancelled until next week because of the storm.

Organizations that help Winnipeg’s homeless are working together to ensure people have somewhere warm to go during the blizzard.
