Attendance records revealed: Documents show firefighters union president Alex Forrest hasn’t attended a meeting of a joint city-union committee since at least 2006. Terrorist gets 20 years: The sole remaining suspect in the Paris terror attacks has been sentenced to 20 years for a shootout with police in Brussels. Salah Abdeslam was given the maximum sentence for the March 2016 incident. It’s not clear when he will face trial for the Paris attacks, which happened four months earlier and killed 130 people. On April 23, 1921: The Manitoba Free Press reported that in in the Manitoba Legislature, after much acrimonious debate, the Farm Loans bill had passed, which would raise the rate at which loans could be borrowed from six per cent to seven per cent. A liveryman at Sandy Lake was murdered with an axe; since the victim’s money, watch and ring were left untouched, revenge was thought to be the motive for the crime. READ MORE
