On April 26, 1976: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Portuguese voters gave Marlo Soares and his Socialist party the leading position in parliamentary election returns. Winnipeg police had several people in custody after the death of a 28-year-old man whose body was found near the Canadian Armed Forces base on Kenaston Boulevard. People in Shamattawa were concerned about their kids, according to a field doctor who had been testing lead levels in blood resulting from sniffing gas. The Canadian Coast Guard ship Namao broke ice on its maiden voyage on Lake Winnipeg.
