On April 26, 1938: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the body of pilot Mike Sawchyn had been found in a pool of water near Gilbert Plains, half a mile from where his wrecked airplane had been discovered a week earlier. Sawchyn had apparently used a piece of the wreckage as a crutch to walk away from the crash site. France learned of Britain’s abandonment of a “four-power plan” between the two countries as well as Germany and Italy to guarantee European peace. Czechoslovakia rebuffed Nazi demands to change its foreign policy. READ MORE
