On April 8, 1966: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that more volunteers were needed to build dikes in flood-threatened communities in the Red River valley; only a few people were left in the communities of Morris, Emerson and St. Jean. Manitoba premier Duff Roblin denied there had been a government-imposed news blackout in the flood-threatened towns of southern Manitoba. Manitoba Hydro and all those connected with the water haulage contract for supplies used in the Grand Rapids hydro project were cleared of charges and criticisms levelled at them in the Manitoba Legislature.
