Good morning!
It may be a relief not to be experience a hot, dry summer here (like last year), but other parts of the world aren’t so lucky. A major wildfire in France has destroyed 68 square kilometres since Tuesday as the country experiences a heat wave; national parks in Africa are under increasing threat from below-average rainfall and new infrastructure projects; and weeks of dry weather in Germany have seen the Rhine River sink to critical levels, making it increasingly difficult to transport goods.
Closer to home, new reporting revealed that Free Press reporter Ryan Thorpe was targeted for death after he infiltrated a neo-Nazi group and exposed one of its members as a Canadian Armed Forces reservist in a series of articles.
