On Aug. 20, 1965: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that Winnipeg’s largest urban renewal project, involving 690 acres of land on both sides of Main Street, which would affect roughly 11,500 people and cost “untold millions of dollars” was agreed upon by city council, which planned to apply to senior levels of government for support. In Quebec City, four armed men escaped from a bank with $80,000, after breaking through the building’s roof in the night and crouching in wait for the day’s business to begin. READ MORE
