Series set to resume: The Jets face the Calgary Flames in Game 3 of their best-of-five playoff qualifying series at 5:45 p.m. CT. The Jets lost Game 1 and two star players to injury Saturday but tied the series 1-1 Monday. In his latest column, Mike McIntyre says Jets coach Paul Maurice’s saying Flames player Matthew Tkachuk deliberately injured Mark Scheifele in Game 1 was “a calculated bit of gamesmanship” that “worked like a charm.” READ MORE

Headed to primary polls: Five U.S. states are holding primary elections today. One of the races to watch is in Michigan, where Rep. On Aug. 4, 1917: The Manitoba Free Press reported that prime minister Robert Borden urged Canadians for renewed consecration of their war efforts as the Great War entered its fourth year. In Parliament, the proposed income tax bill was debated at length. In Flanders, German losses were described as “appalling” in the face of the British barrage. In Russia, a new political crisis arose as the the country’s premier, Kerensky, resigned, but then withdrew his resignation.
