Drone drama: Flights have resumed at Gatwick Airport south of London. The airfield was closed for about 36 hours as authorities, who have yet to make any arrests, searched for a drone operator. READ MORE

On Dec. 21, 1999: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that the federal government had pledged $12 million to Winnipeg to help with its inner-city housing problems; an initial $4-million payment was meant to respond to the rash of fires that had been sweeping the city. CN Rail combined with Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway, to create North America’s largest freight carrier. Airline seats were dropping in price over the holidays, due to low numbers of people travelling; some travel agents blamed anxiety over Y2K as a cause. READ MORE
