On Dec. 27, 1994: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that two Winnipeggers in serious condition from carbon monoxide poisoning were flown to Minneapolis for treatment in a double compression chamber; the man and his mother were found in their home by a visiting family member, who contacted emergency services. In Marseille, a Christmas plane hijacking ended in gunfire as French police stormed the aircraft, killing the four Algerian gunmen and saving 170 passengers and crew; the hijackers had killed three passengers during the 54-hour ordeal.
