On Dec. 7, 1948: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that representatives of Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg told the United States they were ready to make specific proposals for a North Atlantic defence alliance. In Winnipeg, the morning streetcar commute was tied up by a derailment at the river park loop; getting the cars back on the line took roughly an hour and a half, in frigid weather. Winnipeg RCMP said that local drug users were not considered dangerous, and none had been involved in violent robberies to support their addiction. READ MORE
