Extreme cold: You’d better bundle up — it’s brutal out there, as an extreme cold warning is in effect. Highway 75 between Winnipeg and Emerson and the Trans-Canada Highway between Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, among other routes, were both shut down last night but reopened early today. Today’s forecast is sunny, with blowing snow in outlying areas this morning, a low of -29 C and a high of -24 C, peak winds from the north at 30 km/h gusting to 50 and wind chill as low as -44 this morning.

Pope on married priests: Pope Francis has avoided a thorny issue by declining to approve the ordination of married men to address the shortage of priests in the Amazon.
